Originally composed c. 1892-99, Urlicht was Selection No. 11 in Humoresken, which has since become known, slightly confusingly, as Lieder aus 'Des Knaben Wunderhorn'. Mahler later  incorporated Urlight into Symphony No. 2 as Selection No. 4.)
