Gail Olszewski has performed solo and chamber recitals on piano, fortepiano, harpsichord, organ, harmonium, celesta and synthesizer in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Central America. Currently living in St. Paul, Minnesota, she has played with St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, South Dakota Symphony, Minnesota Opera, Bach Society of Minnesota, Ordway Productions and chamber music for Alexandria (MN) Festival of the Lakes and Music St. Croix (Stillwater, MN). She has performed six previous recitals as part of the Frederick Collection’s Historical Piano Concerts Series.
Gail is a vocal and instrumental coach, teaches private piano, chamber music and harpsichord and is a faculty member of MacPhail Center for Music, Minneapolis, MN. She is a founding member of The WolfGang, dedicated to authentic instrument performance, and Duo Tastiera, a harpsichord/fortepiano duo with harpsichordist /composer Asako Hirabayashi.
Gail has presented master classes and lecture/recitals on teaching collaborative skills; chamber music; ornamentation; Baroque and Classical performance practices, styles and music; women composers; history of the piano; piano music of late Romantic Finnish composers and Edvard Grieg to many schools, symposia and professional organizations and has had review articles published in the Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music.
She has recorded with Borealis Brass, The WolfGang, Duo Tastiera and OboeBass! and has videos on YouTube. Her solo album of piano music by Finnish composers, Northern Lights: Finnish Favorites, was recorded on the Frederick Collection’s 1877 Erard and is available on her website. She recorded Books 1-5 of Grieg’s Lyric Pieces at La Grua Center in Stonington, CT on an 1886 Chickering (release pending).
Gail received a BA in Spanish and Music History/Harpsichord (University of New Hampshire), a MMus in Piano Performance (Boston University) and a DMA in Accompanying and Coaching (University of Minnesota).
